An intimate outdoor shoot is basically an “outdoor boudoir shoot”. As we know, Boudoir photography is a photography session that takes place in the Boudoir, that is the bedroom, and focuses on capturing sensual, intimate, and often suggestive images of an individual, typically for their personal enjoyment or as a gift for a partner. But since this outdoor shoot is NOT being done in a bedroom it is technically not a boudoir shoot. However The term “boudoir” now also refers to a style of photography that aims to highlight the subject’s beauty, confidence, and vulnerability in a tasteful and artistic manner. Hence an oxymoronic term like outdoor boudoir shoot still works.

In an intimate outdoor shoot, the subject is typically posed in outdoor settings such as gardens, beaches, forests, urban landscapes, or other picturesque locations. The aim is to combine the natural beauty of the surroundings with the subject’s allure to create visually appealing and sensual images. Natural light and the outdoor environment contribute to the aesthetic of these shoots.

It’s important to note that outdoor boudoir photography is intended to empower the subject and create images that they feel confident and comfortable with. What time of day do outdoor sessions happen?

The timeline of an outdoor boudoir session would be different from a typical Boudoir session. We plan it in such a way that we do the shoot when the light will be most beautiful at your chosen location. Outdoor sessions are extra amazing at sunrise, late afternoon, and sunset. We can keep some time aside for hair and makeup and then do the shoot. The overall time taken is the same as an indoor boudoir shoot.

What happens if there is bad weather?

That is always a risk with any outdoor shoot. Part of doing a session outdoors means that there can be a risk of poor weather! If it rains or becomes stormy, we can change the timing of our session or reschedule to another day, or have an indoor location in mind in order to keep the photoshoot on the same day as planned. Typically in Delhi, the months with rain and storm showers are July and August. It doesn’t really rain in the other months. But if it does, we can always have a contingency plan in place.

Privacy and comfort in outdoor boudoir sessions

One has to make sure one feels safe/comfortable with the idea of taking pictures in a public space, amidst nature, where some people might chance upon the shoot. That is the nature of an intimate outdoor shoot. For those who aren’t comfortable with this, there’s always the regular Boudoir shoot. At the end of it all, it has to make you feel affirmed and impeccable. Your safety is super important so we have to make sure that you feel safe/comfortable in your chosen location for the outdoor intimate shoot.

There are people who choose more remote locations, quieter times of day (like sunrise), or plan more covered-up outfits (like a swimsuit instead of lingerie, or adding sheer robes/cardigans) to help them feel comfortable during their outdoor intimate shoot. There are people who aren’t as conscious about other people seeing them in a scenario like this. Still we always have to be prepared on how to handle passersby. For example, for outdoor boudoir clients who want to incorporate nudity into a session, that always involves choosing a quieter or more remote location, and keeping a sheet or robe handy so that the client can cover up if people walk nearby.

What if I’m nervous about my privacy in an outdoor setting?

It’s absolutely natural to feel nervous or exposed during a boudoir photo shoot, especially in an outdoor setting.

But keep in mind that boudoir photography is all about celebrating your unique beauty and personality. It’s important to choose a place that will not only make you feel beautiful and fun, but. also a place that will be sheltered from onlookers. May be you can have a few friends/spouses on the lookout who can keep an eye on the perimeter and make sure no passersby walk in the direction of the shoot. The process of capturing beautiful and intimate moments in a stunning outdoor setting will yield stunning results.

Intimate outdoor sessions are done for limited time periods in the year

Intimate outdoor shoots will always depend on the local weather. Since I am based in Delhi, the best months to do it would be September to April. The shoot can be done during the monsoon months as well but it will highly depend on the humidity levels and rain predictions. As such cloudy weather makes for good pictures.

Are intimate outdoor shoots done differently from regular Boudoir shoots?

Outdoor boudoir sessions get scheduled a little bit differently than indoor boudoir sessions. Instead of a precise timeline and a controlled space, the outdoor session has to be a little bit more fluid and organic!

Once we choose a photoshoot date, we block out a large window of time for a few daylight hours. As we get closer to the date, we pick an exact starting time based on the weather and light/clouds. The other things work the same as a regular indoor boudoir shoot.

What do you wear for an outside boudoir photo shoot?

Dress according to the weather. If the shoot is being done in winters, well, make sure you are covered up at least when a particular pose is not being shot. For summer months some flowy dress or light layers can be worn. And of course for the actual photoshoot, it works pretty much the same way as an indoor one. However you might want to be less scantily clad comparatively, depending on the location of the intimate outdoor shoot that you choose.

If you’re shooting in colder weather, consider bringing a cozy blanket or jacket to keep you warm between poses.

Well, everything can be safe and unsafe. However you can make sure that your Boudoir shoot is safe for you. As a photography genre, Boudoir photography has no physical or mental harm associated with it. However, because Boudoir photography is an intimate activity where the focus is on being sensual, and you will be at your most scantily clad in front of a stranger, it can make a woman feel vulnerable and unsafe when working with members of a photography team.

Since a Boudoir shoot typically involves minimal clothing, sexy poses, and lingerie changes — not to forget a private setting where a make up artist or a hair stylist is going to be touching you, it’s imperative to hire a legitimate photographer who can make their clients feel safe and make it an enjoyable experience.

Here’s how to make sure that your Boudoir photography shoot is safe for you

1. Meet your photographer in person

Choose a public place for a meetup. Meeting them will give you an idea of their personality and professionalism by how they conduct themselves around you. If a physical meeting is not possible before the shoot (if you plan to travel to a different city for the shoot) or due to long distances, then a zoom meeting can always be done online. Meeting your photographer or interacting with them will also establish a rapport and start a process of increasing your comfort level before the shoot.

2. Ask a lot of questions

When you do that, you can assess whether the person actually HAS experience as a Boudoir photographer or is meeting you in person for some other nefarious purpose. Anyone who’s been doing this professionally would already know the answers to your queries without fumbling. Their experience will be very evident in their answers.

3. Choose a photographer with an all female team if that makes you comfortable

Many women feel far safer if women professionals are handling something as private as a Boudoir shoot. If you are comfortable with a male photographer taking your images or with a male makeup artist or hair stylist doing hair and make up for you then please go for it. There are many male professionals who will absolutely go out of their way to make women feel comfortable. But if you feel that an all female team will put you much more at ease then go for it. In our case, we have an all women team doing the Boudoir shoot.

4. Make sure your photographer is actually a Boudoir photographer

There are many photographers out there who are wedding or fashion or “something else” photographers. However they add Boudoir to their website SEO and you land there. When contacted, they may even agree to do a Boudoir shoot. It’s a good idea to Verify whether your photographer really is a boudoir photographer or just claiming to be one. You can also check their credentials. Do they have open social media presence? Or are they just lying from behind a website that’s attracting people for reasons other than Boudoir photography? There are a lot of perverts out there who will do anything to get a kick.

5. Choose a 3rd party reliable location for the shoot

Do NOT do the Boudoir shoot at home. One may feel it’s safer at home, but not only does shooting in one’s own bedroom not make good boudoir pictures or usually have proper natural light, it’s recommended not to invite strangers into your personal space at the outset.

6. While choosing a hotel room for the Boudoir shoot, choose a reputable brand

Don’t go in for those sleazy OYO rooms or the hotels which let out rooms by the hour for couples. It’s best to invest in a good quality hotel room or suite where you know you will surely be safe. And that the staff will take care of you. If a photographer is doing the shoot at a studio, verify onsite location before the shoot. If the photographer is authentic, the space would be public enough and female staff would be present to make women feel safe.

7. Ask if you can bring a friend

A legitimate photographer will allow you to bring someone along for your safety. They may have rules for that person, but they will allow it.

In some cases, the friend may be required to stay in a waiting area. But they would be close enough that if anything were to make you feel uncomfortable, they would be there is an instant.

During my shoots, I don’t typically allow guests to accompany the client especially not into the shooting area. It can make things awkward when the client is posing. Likewise, children are not allowed because of the nature of a boudoir photoshoot. But in general, if a female client insists that she needs a female friend, sister, mother, aunt, as long as they are providing positive support, bring them along! But anyone who can possibly disrupt the shoot will not be allowed.

8. Be clear about the privacy or usage of your images

Always discuss this aspect with the photographer before the shoot. Once you are clear about it, sign a contract with the photographer. I always make sure this is mentioned in the Memorandum of Understanding document signed by both parties before the shoot.

9. Don’t Go For The Cheapest Option

A boudoir shoot experience is a luxury. It is also a very vulnerable time. Pricing will of course always play a part in your decision, but going for the cheapest option might turn out to be counterproductive later.

A professional photographer has put time into learning their craft. They incur costs for setting up a business, for equipment, for their website, marketing and for the staff they have to pay. They incur costs even when they provide you consultation for free. They need to make a profit to stay in business and they provide a professional service.

Pricing is of course important, but if that’s the only criteria, it’s best to save over a period of time and then hire a professional boudoir photographer. You will have a much better experience.

What to Expect from a Boudoir Photo Shoot

We are so glad you are considering a Boudoir Photo shoot! From the moment you book a boudoir photography session with us, till your images our delivered to you, our focus is on providing you with the highest quality of service. For women subjects, We have an all women team available to make you feel comfortable and relaxed during the shoot. We work on capturing each woman’s unique beauty, in a way that will leave you feeling empowered and sexy. We believe that every woman’s boudoir experience should be as unique as her! This is why apart from our standard packages, we have the provision of a custom boudoir package too.

What happens during a Boudoir Photography shoot

Each of our boudoir photography sessions takes place in a gorgeous suite at a high-end hotel. Before the shoot we will be consulting you on the attire, props, do’s and don’ts related to the session. We will also be discussing a few poses so that this will make planning the shoot easy. Before the shoot , we’ll meet physically or on a virtual video call, so that you are comfortable with your photographer and don’t spend the photography time on the big day, in getting comfortable in front of a stranger.

Basically, we want you up and ready, walking into your boudoir photo session feeling fully confident. It’s ok to feel nervous about the shoot especially since it’s a first time experience for many people. But at every step of the way, we try to ensure that you feel comfortable. IF you have chosen a package with makeup and hairstyling, then we will start the day with that. After this the photography will commence in private. The only people in the room will be you and the female photographer. If touchup to the makeup is needed then the makeup artist or hair stylist may enter the room. Finally after the shoot is done, the edited images will be delivered to you in 5-6 weeks.
