A boudoir shoot is a luxury and glamorous photography session that is done in a bedroom setting and focuses on capturing intimate and sensual images of an individual, typically in a private setting. The term “boudoir” is derived from the French word for a woman’s private dressing room or bedroom, and the purpose of this type of photography is to create tasteful and alluring images that showcase the subject’s beauty, confidence, and personality.
What happens in a regular Boudoir shoot
Preparation and Planning for a boudoir shoot:
-
- Choose a Photographer: Select a photographer who specializes in boudoir photography and whose style aligns with your vision.
- Consultation: Have a consultation with the photographer to discuss your preferences, comfort level, and any specific ideas you have in mind. We give free consultation before the shoot commences.
Location for a boudoir shoot:
-
- Select a Setting: Boudoir shoots can take place in various settings, such as a bedroom, or elegant hotel room or suite. We typically avoid private homes because they are often full of clutter and dingy areas. It is best to do it in a hotel suite where furniture, bedsheets and other related housekeeping is done by the staff.
Wardrobe and Styling for a boudoir shoot:
-
- Outfit Selection: Choose outfits that make you feel confident and beautiful. This can include lingerie, dresses, robes, or any clothing that complements the desired aesthetic.
- Accessories and props: There can be many props that can be used during a boudoir shoot. Most would already be a part of your daily life and you might want to purchase some. There is no hard and fast rule for what props have to be used during a shoot. We provide guidance on all possibilities.
- Hair and Makeup: Professional hair and makeup services are often recommended to ensure you look and feel your best. We provide an all women team to do hair and makeup on the day of the shoot if you should so choose.
Boudoir Photography Session:
-
- Posing Guidance: The photographer will guide you through various poses and expressions to create a variety of shots that highlight your best features. In our case, the photographer is part of the all women team to maximise your comfort level.
- Comfort and Consent: A reputable photographer will prioritize your comfort and boundaries, ensuring that you feel safe and respected throughout the session. Our session is done only after written consent and agreement about various things in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) document signed by both parties.
Photography Style for a boudoir shoot:
-
- Lighting: Boudoir photography often involves using soft, flattering lighting to create a sensual and intimate atmosphere. We do all our shoots in natural light, hence we recommend hotel suites equipped with floor to ceiling windows.
- Composition: The photographer may focus on close-ups, body curves, and facial expressions to capture a range of emotions and create captivating images. We decide poses before hand and leave some room for on the spot creativity as well.
Editing and Retouching in a boudoir shoot:
-
- Image Selection: After the session, the photographer will select the best images to be edited.
- Editing: Basic editing techniques, such as color correction, skin smoothing, and enhancing details, are applied to enhance the final images.
Image Delivery after a boudoir shoot:
-
- Viewing and Selection for printing: You’ll have the opportunity to view the edited images and select the ones you’d like to get printed for styling in your own private space.
- Delivery: The final images are delivered to you digitally and also in print, depending on the package you choose.
It’s important to communicate openly with your photographer, set clear boundaries, and choose someone whose work and approach align with your comfort level and artistic vision. Boudoir photography is about celebrating and embracing your body and personality, and a skilled photographer will create a safe and empowering environment to capture stunning images.
